A homeowner in Boise had us out for routine maintenance on their air conditioning.
No complaint, nothing wrong that they had noticed.
Just the kind of regular check-in that keeps a system running well.

We did what a maintenance visit is for: we measured the whole system. Refrigerant charge, pressures, airflow, temperatures across the coil. Top to bottom, while it was running.

Every reading came back where it should be.

Understanding the system, not just reading the measurements

There's a detail here worth explaining, because it shows what careful measurement actually involves.

The day we visited, the outdoor temperature was in the upper 50s. That matters more than it sounds. The quick on-screen diagnostics built into most tools assume warmer conditions, so in cool weather they can read a perfectly healthy system as low on refrigerant. Acting on that reading would mean adding refrigerant the system doesn't need, leaving it overcharged once summer arrives.

So we verified the charge the way cool-weather conditions call for: against the manufacturer's own pressure chart for that day's temperature. Measured properly, the charge was right where it belonged. Nothing to add.

That's the point of measuring. Not to generate a recommendation, but to understand what's actually happening and act on it.

What we did, and what we didn't

We cleaned the coil, checked the filter, and confirmed the airflow and electrical readings were healthy. The system was in good shape. No parts. No repair. No upsell.

We scheduled a check-in for next season, and that was that.

What a clean result gives you

A maintenance visit that finds nothing to fix is the goal.

A system that's measured and kept in good shape runs efficiently, which keeps energy costs steady instead of climbing over the years. It lasts longer, because small things get caught and corrected before they become big ones. And it doesn't surprise you, because you're staying ahead of it instead of waiting for something to break.

That's what regular maintenance is for. The honest answer isn't always a repair. Sometimes it's simply that your system is in good shape, and the work of keeping it there is ours.
